The great HEFCE pronunciation debate (updated)

Wonkhe was idly musing this morning on Twitter about the correct pronunciation of ‘HEFCE’, having heard many people incorrectly pronounce it ‘hef-cee’. Malice in Wonderland

The Higher Education White Paper was originally promised in December 2010. The date of publication slipped past Christmas into January, then February, and now ‘probably’ before Easter. Thus we still have no coherent and comprehensive statement of policy, but the Government has already decided to close Aimhigher, fixed the permitted range of full-time undergraduate fees, determined the scope of the National Scholarships Programme, and given detailed guidance for 2011-2012 to the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the Office of Fair Access.
